Last week New Yorck in Bethanien hosted the Biennale de Paris, the first Berlin presentation by current director Alexandre Gurita.
As hosts, New Yorck really excelled at that function that was often preached but hardly ever (never?) practiced by the official art institutions at Bethanien (that, by the way, also unsuccessfully tried to have the squatters removed from the building complex): offering a place for cultural production that is BOTH "advanced" (and I understand this term to imply critical awareness) and "international."
